Homework for 12/10/14 -
Fill out the "Knowing About Disease" table, student sheet 31.2 by yourself and with your parents and/or a grandparent.  Also, start planning your PSA with your team.

yesterday's homework was to:
Use the data from the tables copied in class to make 2 line graphs on the same sheet:

Then, using your graph, write a paragraph in which you:

a) explain the model (or, what in the model symbolized an infectious disease as it spread; and

b) look at the changes in numbers for any patterns, and describe what (like the patterns) make the model useful, and

c) criticize the model. What do you see in the spread of a real disease, that did not happen in the model?

New homework only for Period 3:
Write a Reflection in your science notebook, minimum 3 sentences.  Did you notice any differences between the PSAs (Go Red for Women with Elizabeth Banks) https://www.goredforwomen.org/about-heart-disease/symptoms_of_heart_disease_in_women/just-a-little-heart-attack/
and the "this is your brain on drugs" PSA at:

In addition, if you did not finish and turn in your project today, then you must also work on your project:
·* Project Data and Graph was due Nov. 24
·* Project Report and Poster Board Due Dec. 1
Your project board should be neat and must have (at least) the following information on it:
  • Title
  • Hypothesis (written in "If"...."then".... format)
  • Procedure (may be summarized)
  • Data table and graph
  • Conclusion
  • Graphics

Homework:
Feel The Beat Embedded Task
Homework for tonight:
Periods 2, 3, and 4: In your science notebook, write about 3 factors that can influence how quickly a disease can spread, based on today's discussion in class.  For an example, use the idea of how quickly a cold or flu could spread through Rippowam's population.

  • Graphics

IF you are confused about Part 2, then read this:
Two statements on p. 8 sum it up:
"1. Effect of other variables on Pulse Rate" and
"2. What other variables might cause the heart to beat faster or slower? You might consider physiological factors [ex: age, height, etc.] or... environmental factors [temperature, lighting, etc.]."

So, do the same experiment as you did for part I, but change one thing. For example, instead of running, you might choose to jump rope for your activity. Or you might have done your activity indoors in 70-80o F temperatures, and for your second procedure you do the same activity outdoors in 30-40o F weather.

Annonymus has left a new comment on your post "Homework: Feel The Beat Embedded Task ·* Project D...": for the graphics should we just take pictures of us collecting data for our experiment
Answer: Yes, that's one thing that you can do to help satisfy the graphics requirement.
