- chemical change - when chemicals combine or break up to produce "new" or different substances with different propertes.
- chemical reactions - take place when one or more starting substances (the "reactants") change chemically into another substance or substances (the "products") . Signs: material gives off smoke, heat, light, or a new odor, or forms a precipitate. (substances rearrange to form substances different than the reactants).
- composition - what something is made up of. Ex: the composition of a cookie includes sugar, butter, flour, and chocolate.
- Monomer / Polymer - Monomer is a molecule that repeats and is linked to others to form a polymer, which is a chemical made of repeating molecules linked together, kind of like this: ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ Ex: Plastics.
- Percent composition - how many parts per hundred made up a material. Ex: One percent (1%) means one part per hundred; therefore, seawater is 3.5 parts per hundred in solution.
