Thursday Homework All students (unless you're doing the make-up lab tomorrow in the Cyber Cafe at lunch) should have this completed; for tomorrow, have your lab Report ready including all of the following:
Part 1: Graph - (see below for details).
Part 2: Lab Report form including Variables, Data Table, and Conclusions (see below for details)
Part 3: Answers to Analysis Questions 1-3 on p. E-29 (see below for details), and
Part 4:  copy the vocab words and definitions (see below for details) into your Vocab Section.

PART 1: Complete your graph, including all 7 parts:

  a. Draw axes* -

  b. Label Data: Time (minutes) on X-axis and Temperature (oC) on Y-axis

  c. Units - (minutes) on X-axis and (oC) on Y-axis.

  d. Write numbers along each axis: EVEN SPACING BETWEEN NUMBERS ex: 0___1 ___ 2 ___ 3

                                                                                                                             not: 0___1_2_____3

e. Plot the data, and

f. Connect dots with a line.

g. Title - (data type on the X-axis vs. data type on the Y-axis.

PART 2: Complete writing lab reports, including the following sections:
2. Variables - Fill them in based on discussion in class.

7. To the section entitled: "DATA TABLE", you will graph the data from your Data Table.
8. Conclusions - Summarize the experiment.  In other words, write one sentence to describe the experiment.
Then, write another sentence to state whether your hypothesis was correct or not.
To explain "why", write a sentence to describe what your data showed. Write a sentence about any errors that you made. Finally, if you can, write a sentence to explain how would make the lab better.

Lab report is due on Thursday (except for Period 4 class
).

PART 3: Complete Analysis Questions 1-3, from Heating Earth’s Surface on p. E-29;
ANALYSIS
1. a. Create a graph of the data you collected. Remember to label your axes, title your graph, and include a key. b. Summarize the trends that you see in your graph.

2. Copy the table below. Calculate the changes in temperature for each substance you tested, and fill in the table.

3. What can you conclude about how land and water heat up and cool down? Support your answer with evidence from this activity.

PART 4: Vocabulary  (Put them in the vocab section).  Complete definitions from blog:
Variable - Any factor that can affect the outcome of an experiment.

Independent Variable - the one thing that you choose to change. (Memory trick: The "choice").
