6th Grade
2nd Period: Air pressure is caused by the weight of 100 miles of air above us that presses down on us and everything around us!  Formula is: P= F/A.
Ex: if there is 60 pounds of force on an area of 60 square inches, then to find pressure:
P = F/A
   = 600 lbs./60 in2   (hint: find the force -- it will be measured in pounds, for now.
   = 10 lbs./in.2          Divide it by the Area, measured in units of square inches)

On an SPP, solve the following problems, and be sure to write down units in your answers (here, lb./in.2 or pounds per square inch):

1. 10 lbs., 5 in.2                                          2. 15 lbs., 5 in.2 .

3. 25 lbs., 5 in.2 .                             4. 100lbs., 10 in.2 .                   5. 75lbs., 25 in.2 .

3rd Period: Answer the following questions (use RAVE - Restate question, Answer Question, use Vocabulary, Explain using Evidence or Examples):
1. Use your laboratory results to discuss the following questions:
a. How can you describe air?
b. Is air always the same?
c. Look again at Student Sheet 63.1(Anticipation Guide: Air).  Would you change any of your answers? How?
2. Do your observations from Part A provide evidence that air is a substance?  Why or Why not?
3. Look at your results from Part B. Is the air that comes out of your lungs the same as your classroom air? Explain.
4. Is air a substance or is it just empty space? Support your answer with evidence from this investigation.

8th Grade - Read the article on Hybrid Cars and on the T-chart write out 5 advantages and 5 disadvantages of hybrid cars.
