·         design an experiment to investigate the effects of mechanical breakdown on chemical breakdown during digestion.
Getting Started:  Why is it important to chew your food?
Key terms: Write key words in notes, write words & definitions in vocab section
o    Absorption - the process of being pulled in, soaked up (absorbed).
o    Digestion - pull nutrients out of food.
o    Chemical breakdown - food is broken into much smaller pieces, by saliva in the mouth, acid in the stomach, and other chemicals in the intestines.

o    Cross-section- A type of representation that shows the view if an object were cut through.
o    Mechanical breakdown- food is cut and ground into small pieces, mainly in the mouth by teeth, and also in the stomach.
o    Quantitative/qualitative data- information from an experiment that contains numerical information (quantitative) or information without numbers.

o    Surface area - the part of a structure that is broken off and exposed to attack.
