The following vocab must be copied into your science notebook VOCAB section by Wednesday morning:

Vocab: (copy vocab words into your science notes and copy definitions into your vocab section):

Asexual reproduction- organism divides to make 2 copies of the parent, without gametes uniting. Single cell organisms (bacteria, algae & amoeba) split into clones; multi-cellular organisms such as Hydra can bud; strawberry plants use runners.
cell - smallest unit of structure & function of all organisms; cells are enclosed by a membrane.
cell division -cell splits from 1 to make 2, then 4, and so on, to make many.
clone - offspring produced by asexual reproduction (natural or artificial); new cell inherits all of its traits from a single parent.
DNA- molecule 'string' of genetic material that codes for organism traits.
Fertilization - union of a sperm cell and an egg cell to form a zygote.
Gametes - sex cells. Sperm is a male sex cell; an Egg is a female sex cell.
mutation - random copying error in DNA. Offspring gets a different trait than parent(s) cells.
offspring - new organism produced by a living thing.
sexual reproduction - When a sperm cell unites with an egg cell to produce offspring that inherit traits from both parents.
